Vertical Vessel Footing Design Calculator

This calculator assists in the design of isolated square footings for vertical vessels. It ensures stability and safety through several design and load checks.

Stability Checks

The following checks are performed to ensure the isolated square footings for vertical vessels remain stable under various load conditions:

  • Overturning Check
  • Sliding Check
  • Eccentricity Check
  • Base Pressure Check

Structural Design Checks

The calculator performs the following essential design checks for isolated square footings:

  • Flexural Requirement Check
  • One-Way Shear Check
  • Punching Shear Check
  • Stability Load Combination Analysis

Load Combinations Used in Stability Checks

Stability checks are carried out under standard service load combinations:

  • Case 1: Total Dead Load + Equipment Hydrotest Weight
  • Case 2: Total Dead Load + Equipment Empty Weight + Wind
  • Case 3: Total Dead Load + Equipment Operating Weight + Seismic

Design Load Combinations

The footing design is evaluated for the following factored load cases:

  • Case 101: 1.4 × Total Dead Load + 1.4 × Equipment Hydrotest Weight
  • Case 102: 1.2 × Total Dead Load + 1.2 × Equipment Empty Weight + Wind
  • Case 103: 1.2 × Total Dead Load + 1.2 × Equipment Operating Weight + Wind
  • Case 104: 1.2 × Total Dead Load + 1.2 × Equipment Operating Weight + Seismic

Limitations of the Calculator

  • The footing and pedestal are assumed to be square.
  • Eccentricity is limited to L/6 to prevent negative pressure.
  • Optimized pressure (Qoptimized) is not calculated for areas beyond L/6 eccentricity.
  • No uplift conditions considered (e.g., no high water table).
  • Pedestal design is excluded in this version.
